When you hear the word "emergency" many things come to mind, such as a car accident, a fire or flood.
There are also things that can happen in a property that are considered emergencies that need to be dealt with immediately (or as soon as can be addressed).
Sometimes, there is confusion as to whether a call to an emergency line for a property issue needs to be made. While most tenants tend to err on the side of caution, it can cause undue stress on everybody involved.
Usually, a call to a property management company needs to happen if there is a flood (a broken pipe that won't stop leaking), no heat in the middle of winter, or a fire (if there is a fire, 911 needs to be called before the property management company).
There are things that are inconveniences that tenants call the emergency line for, such as broken appliances, pest control issues, parking issues, etc. These are issues that need to be taken care of during normal business hours.
If it's 7:00 at night, and your stove stops working, you can always call the main office number and leave a message. Messages are checked every working morning.
Next week, I will post a blog about how we handle repair calls.
I hope you have have a safe and wonderful weekend!
